As we age, our vision may not be as sharp as it once was. Reading the newspaper might become difficult, bright lights may cause glare or sensitivity, or simply watching television for too long can lead to eye fatigue. However, this is not always a cause for alarm. Consistent eye care can help keep your eyes bright and functioning well for a long time.
GOOD VISION has compiled 10 simple ways to care for eye health for seniors that you can start today, ensuring your vision remains clear and you can live every day with quality.
1. Rest Your Eyes
Take a break from near-vision tasks, such as reading or looking at a phone, every 20 minutes. Look away at a distant object, such as green scenery or trees, to help relax your eyes.
2. Avoid Strong Sunlight
Avoid being outdoors in strong sunlight. Always wear sunglasses when doing outdoor activities to protect your eye lens and retina from degeneration caused by UV rays.

3. Regular Eye Exams
Have an eye health check or vision test with an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist at least once a year. This helps screen for eye diseases such as age-related cataracts, glaucoma, or retinal diseases. Detecting these conditions early allows for proper and timely treatment.
4. Wear Proper Glasses
Wear eyeglasses that are appropriate for your current prescription to ensure sharp, clear, and comfortable vision.

5. Do Not Self-Medicate
Do not use eye drops on your own. You should only use medication under the treatment and advice of a doctor.
6. Avoid Unnecessary Eye Washing
Do not wash your eyes unless a foreign object has entered them.

7. Eat a Balanced Diet
Consume food from all 5 food groups according to nutritional principles to nourish your body and eyes.
8. Stay Hydrated
Drink enough clean water, at least 8 glasses a day (except for patients with kidney disease, who should consult a doctor first).

9. Control Your Weight
Maintain an appropriate body weight to avoid Diabetes and Hypertension, which can negatively affect the blood vessels in the eyes.
10. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol
Refrain from smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages, as they pose a high risk of causing retinal diseases, a major cause of blindness.
Eye care is not something distant or difficult, especially at an age rich with life experience. The same pair of eyes that have witnessed every important moment of your life deserves a little extra care.
GOOD VISION has professional Optometrists ready to provide advice, equipped with modern tools for detailed eye examinations. We also offer a selection of quality eyewear to ensure every pair is "The Right Glasses" comfortable to wear, providing clear vision, and suitable for everyday use.
